Uses for Coconut Oil

There is this joke when you are a new mom to just “put some coconut oil on it” for just about everything. Diaper rash, cut, dry skin, etc. You even hear the occasional joke of someone saying to use it for something totally irrelevant like “Didn’t get enough sleep last night? Just rub some coconut oil on your exhaustion.” This is because there are so many uses for coconut oil.

Not only is it much safer to cook with than olive oil, but it has so many great benefits and depending on what coconut oil you use, it can add a lot of flavor and moisture to whatever you are cooking. Some coconut oils have a more “coconutty” flavor than others.

Having celiac disease and being predominately grain free, I try to cook pretty clean. We eat mostly organic, use natural and organic house cleaners and I use a lot of organic and natural skin care products. I even used coconut oil on my nipples when I first started breastfeeding and I used it to help get rid of my son’s thrush. I guess you could call me a strong believer in coconut oil.
