Just Poppin’ “Crunchy Munchy”

This recipe is an adaptation of a recipe submitted to one of my testers, Miranda Jade. She loved some of the holiday treats that are on sale and decided to make a slight change and come up with her own recipe. Hint: her favorite starts with the word Moose.

After a couple tries- the below simple recipe was her winner! Thanks Miranda Jade!

Ingredients:

12 oz Chocolate Chips

12 oz Caramel

½ cup nuts crushed up

Sorghum– 6cups popped

Directions:

  1. Pop enough sorghum to fill up 6 cups.
  2. Spread sorghum on waxed paper evenly.
  3. Melt chocolate and drizzle evenly on top of half of the sorghum.
  4. Melt caramel and drizzle evenly over the other half of the sorghum.
  5. Sprinkle nuts evenly over all sorghum.
  6. Let sorghum cool completely.
  7. Peal sorghum off wax paper and put in a jar in hunks.
  8. Shake jar lightly to mix.

Enjoy!

Again, thanks Miranda Jade.

Check out the review I did on the company Just Poppin. They have the best sorghum!

  1. Okay so now I’m finally going to have to try popping sorghum and seeing what the deal is with this stuff! Your sorghum recipes all sound great and so does your review of the product. I am not allergic to corn that I know of but I know there’s an issue now with GMO corn and I would like to just avoid it and sorghum sounds like a promising alternative!

  2. Wow this is so good I can’t believe how well it turned out! I have a real sweet tooth but I also like something a little crunchy and salty with my chocolate and sweets, and this satisfies my desires perfectly all in one super simple fast recipe. Congratulations to Miranda.

  3. Hi there Tina this sounds like a great alternative to popcorn. I just don’t do well with corn at all, I’ve discovered. I’m especially anxious to try the additional recipes you’ve shared too. They sounds soooo good!

  4. I can’t even tell you how amazing this sounds! I am so tired of plain old granola or trail mix, but I crave crunchy treats still. This sounds exactly like what I’ve been looking for. As an added bonus, I’m sure my kids will love it too!

  5. I really admire your creativity Tina and the creativity I’ve seen in these sorghum recipes! I had this once by itself and loved it, but I never imagined the possibilities. Like Moose Munch? Mmmm I love that stuff! Can’t wait to see Miranda Jade’s other recipes!

  6. I’m officially inspired to make my own recipes, and with the holidays coming up, I suspect I’m going to be making some holiday-type sorghum recipes, ones with pumpkin pie spices, pieces of candy cane or gingerbread men, etc. I can’t wait to share what I come up with. It’s going to be good!

  7. Hi Tina! After reading all your reviews I’m now extremely anxious to try popped sorghum. I had no idea this could be prepared as a substitute for popcorn.

  8. Does any one know if there’s another company that has sorghum you can pop? Just curious. I remember seeing a company with this product but I don’t think it was this one.
