Bio K Plus has just released a new probiotic supplement for celiacs and dairy-free, soy-free, and sugar-free individuals. Each little bottle offers 50 billion—yes, billion—beneficial bacteria at the time of consumption. The recent product is organic-sprouted-rice-based and free of dairy, wheat, corn, soy, and sugar, not to mention certified organic.
When we originally product-tested Bio-K+’s gluten-free, dairy-free product (purple box) in 2009, I asked Senior Vice President Michel Sirgent if Bio-K+ had plans to make a soy-free and sugar-free probiotic supplement for consumers. I’m celiac and do prefer to stay off dairy, yet I experienced tremendous change on their soy-based product. His response was that they were working on this rice-based product and hoped to have it released in 2010. He carefully explained the need for the sugar to allow the bacteria to thrive, yet the delicate balance of the two strains was a challenge. The problem is the strains will “fight” each other. They’ve solved that problem, guaranteeing 50 billion bacteria “alive” when you open each bottle!
If you’re like many others and myself, you have looked in the refrigerated section or on the shelves for probiotics featuring a multitude of bacterium names to feel satisfied that you were getting “plenty” of strains for your money. After all, probiotics are not inexpensive. Since we’ve tested the products of this company, we’ve been through a learning curve, which resulted in a completely new view on probiotics, all backed by scientific evidence and facts.
Get this! The Food and Agriculture Organization of the U.S., endorsed by many probiotics associations such as the Lutte Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics, states, “Probiotics are live organisms, which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit to the host.” So to be considered true probiotics, a supplement must have viable microorganisms and must be sufficient in quantity to prove beneficial effects for the body.
Let me discuss a few key points to assure you and I purchase a truly beneficial product. Probiotics must be ingested in live form, need to be able to survive the acidic environment of the stomach and bile in the duodenum, and still be able to function and adhere to the lining of the GI tract in order interact with the GI immune system. They will achieve reduction of pathogen colonization by competing for space.
With 100 trillion bacteria in the digestive tract controlling 70 percent of our immune system, it is worth our time and money, not to mention our health, to have a product that works.
I like Bio-K+ and have been religiously using their soy products, but this new rice-based formula with no sugar was worth a try. Nine of us tested the new sprouted organic brown rice Bio-K+, and we all agreed it did not taste as good as the previously tested Bio-K Plus products, yet it was by no means bad-tasting.
As far as results, the majority felt it worked just as well in addressing issues the other Bio-K+ product helped with. We all agreed that for someone off sugar, dairy, soy for whatever reasons, this is an excellent probiotic supplement.
Bio-K+’s reputation and expertise is conveyed in every bottle. http://www.biokplus.com
